A Day at the Whidbey Island Tai Chi Training

This training serves students with differing levels of tai chi experience. Because of this, two tracks are offered. Within each track there will be a range of classes to meet the individual needs of each person. Most classes are small, with 5-15 students. Time in The Art and Stages of Accomplishment classes are taught by our senior teachers and they are for everyone. The schedule is fine-tuned after we have received all the registrations and know what classes are needed.

Many students start their day outside with a half hour of silent tai chi practice, led by an instructor, before breakfast. Between breakfast and lunch all students are engaged in classes. The late afternoon offers time for rest, walking in the woods, or venturing out to a local lake for a swim. Evenings bring a fun group activity, such as ballroom dancing or live music as well as time to play outside or socialize.

The Whidbey Institute provides sleeping accommodations in cabins and Farmhouse bedrooms, as well as a meadow for camping. There is a full meal plan offered and a kitchen available in the Farmhouse for people who want or need to prepare their own meals. We do encourage everyone to participate in the meal plan to some degree as meals are a wonderful time to gather together, get to know new people, and connect with friends. Plus, the food is fantastic! The kitchen staff is expert at accommodating special food needs, just let us know in advance.

10:15 – 11:15 Time in the Art for everyone
11:15 – 11:30 Tea break
11:30 – 12:30 Stages of Accomplishment (Part 1) for everyone

12:30 – 1:30 LUNCH

1:45 – 2:45 Tai Chi Form Classes (continued)
3:00 – 5:45 Break for rest and relaxation (optional activities include lake swimming, hiking, shopping, watercolor painting and contemplation)

5:45 – 7:15 DINNER

7:15 – 8:45 Evening entertainment
8:45-9:00 Tai Chi Practice Rounds
